Mary Wore Her Red Dress

I love these "Mary Wore Her Red Dress" pictures that we made. After reading the story, we drew pictures of ourselves with black Sharpie markers. Then we painted one item of clothing like the illustrator did in the book with watercolors. I used the repetitive text from the book to add words to the children's artwork. These are now hanging on our hall bulletin board and make me smile every time I walk by them.

Books We Love

We have a box in our room that we keep the read alouds that we fall in love with in. When we have some extra time, the lucky duck gets to pick a book from the "books we love" box and I read it to the class. Here are the books that have made it into the box so far this year:

Hot Diggity Dog!

Our Hot Dog Party was a blast! We read The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog, played Hot Dog Dress-up on Mo's website, made silly hot dogs, ate hot dogs and shared our drawing portfolios with our visitors. It was a great way to celebrate the end of our drawing unit in Writing Workshop.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We LOVE the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! Here is our giant classroom Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree. We covered each letter of the alphabet with stickers of something that starts with that letter.

We also made our own Chicka trees. Can you find your Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree in the slideshow below? (click on the black x to get rid of the SuperPoke Pets)

Casper and Dodge

A zoologist from the Cincinnati Zoo introduced our class to Casper and Dodge. Ask your child what they learned about how Casper and Dodge use their senses and how their senses are different from ours.

Casper is a barn owl
Dodge is a ball python

After the zoologist left we drew pictures of Casper and Dodge in our Science Notebooks.

letters and sounds

Found this YouTube video of a song that my 14 year old loved to listen to on cassette tape when he was little. I thought that I would share it with you as I sit and wish that he still wanted to listen to this in the car instead of whatever is on his iPod:)
