Reading Bags

The reading bag that I gave the children is the perfect size to use to carry early readers home from our public library. I showed the children the early readers when we visited the library. They can be found along the back wall of the Madeira Branch of The Public Library:

These books are full of our kindergarten sight words and will help your child maintain and improve upon their reading abilities this summer.

I sent home a notice in your child's report card that lets you know what their guided reading level is. You can find or search for books on your child's reading level at the following sites:

Here are some wonderful summer reading programs that are great motivators to keep your child reading during the summer months.

David Biedrzycki

We had the best day today. Author and illustrator David Biedrzycki spent the day at MES and shared with us how he gets his ideas, what he does with his ideas and how he writes and illustrates his books. You can learn more about David Biedrzycki and his books at his website davidbiedrzycki.com.

David Biedrzycki started drawing when he was four years old.

David Biedrzycki keeps journals in his car, on his desk, in his suitcase and by his bed so that when he gets an idea he can write it down or draw a quick picture.

David Biedrzycki also has an idea wall above his desk. This is a place where he tapes up ideas until they develop into books. I think that an idea wall is a great idea.

David Biedrzycki draws his illustrations on his computer. He drew us this picture of beetle during his presentation today.
