I am in love with...

my new drying rack!
We made our first big art project of the year and placed them to dry on the new love of my teaching life. When it first arrived my initial reaction was "What was I thinking when I ordered this!" But the smell of a new piece of furniture and the fact that this drying rack does not consist of several wired shelves smashed together that dumps all the artwork when a certain student walks by it changed my mind right away

Friday Freebies - Guess My Character and Character & Author Cards

Today's freebie is a game that my students love to play on Fun Friday. I use the headbands from the game Hedbanz to play Guess My CharacterOne student places a character card in their headband. The student wearing the headband can ask 5 questions about their character. “Am I an animal? Am I a boy? Am I a cat? Do I like to sing? Do I wear colorful shoes? Am I Pete the Cat? You can also play this game by having students give the student wearing the headband clues. “You are an animal. You are a boy. You are a cat. You like to sing. You like to wear colorful shoes.” This is a fun way to make connections to characters and learn about character traits.

Kindergarten Reader's Theater...
Lots of reader’s theater scripts for Kindergarten readers. Your Kindergarten students will love performing these reader’s theaters.
based on these Old Lady books...
My class performs a Reader's Theater every Thursday. We call it Theater Thursday. We read over each reader's theater together on the Smartboard and then is small groups or with partners before each performance. Sometimes we use the scripts during the performances and sometimes the actors have memorized their parts or rely on retelling the story. Most of my reader's theaters are predictable text that retell a story that we have read. After each performance the scripts goes home. Some students make their family act out the reader's theater and some do a one man show, including various voices, during their nightly reading.

There Was An Old Lady is a new Reader's Theater, but here are some pictures of our previous performances...

Some character cards are worn as necklaces.

Sometimes I put the character cards on the front of chairs.
This is a great option if they need to use the script for support.

Sometimes I put clips on the character cards. I found the clips on Amazon along with a hole punch that punches the perfect hole.
