We have been working on identifying numbers and counting. We did the following activities to practice counting strategies. After these counting strategies are introduced and practiced we have lots of discussions about how our brains work when we count.

Touch and Count
To practice the touch and count strategy we played this simple game with a die, a game board and Halloween erasers from Target. Roll the die, touch and count the dots and add an eraser to that number on the game board. The first player to have an eraser on every number is the winner.

Move and Count
This recording page is part of my Picture Perfect Math Unit. In Picture Perfect Math, students use a ten frame to count their grabs. For this activity, the students grab a handful of cubes from a bag filled with 10 cubes and practice the move and count strategy to find out how many cubes they grabbed.

 Line Up and Count
Fill baggies with items for your students to count. Label the bags with uppercase letters. Have the students practice the line up and count strategy to find out how many objects are in the bag. Record the amount on the recording page by writing the amount on the bag that matches the letter on the baggie.
