we {heart} buttons

When I was five I loved to play with my grandmother's buttons. We have been exploring and sorting buttons. The sound of the kids digging through buttons and their excitement over finding just the right button has reminded me of my grandmother. She would love that some of her buttons are part of our classroom button collection.

We have read several "button" books...
and sorted buttons in lots of different ways...

we used sorting mats to sort buttons
we did three way sorts
and we recorded a color sort in our math notebooks

thinking maps thursday

We are loving learning our Fun Days routine.
I got the idea for my Fun Days from Joyful Learning in KC
Here are Melissa's Joyful Days...
Here are our Fun Days...

For the next few Thinking Map Thursdays we are working on abc circle maps. I enlarged the maps onto 11x17 paper so that we could work on the maps together.
The kids loved "thinking" about where each picture should go.
You can get the abc circle maps HERE.

we love our colorful shoes

This week we performed "My Colorful Shoes" reader's theater based on the book...
We love this book so much, we didn't even need the script. I used necklaces, so that everyone could show us their moves as they sang their reader's theater part.
My Colorful Shoes Reader's Theater is available in my
Check out my Teachers Pay Teachers Store for more reader's theaters.

This is our second TECHNOLOGY TUESDAY.
We have been learning how to play different ABC apps.
I put pictures up on the Smartboard of the apps that they are allowed to use.
The apps we used today are Letters A to Z, Letter Lab and ABC Tracer.

we are writers and readers and mathematicians

We have been busy in our notebooks.
We recorded that writers need a pencil, paper and ideas...
readers need lots and lots of books...
and mathematicians study numbers, shapes, adding and subtracting.
