I {heart} using notebooks in my classroom!
This week I am sharing some of our science notebook pages.
We do a weather unit.
We created these notebook pages...
We recorded weather words.
We did an experiment with thermometers and hot and icy water.
We learned about the water cycle.
We made a rain gauge out of a 2 liter bottle and measured the rainfall.
Pinterest inspiration...
So tell me how do you do this? Is it a label that you stick at the top? Do they record the information with you together or is it an assignment at the end of the lesson? I am going to do this next year. Do you like the little composition notebooks best?

Jennifer, Yes, I use labels to put information at the top of the page. We usually make a list or chart and then they record or we do an experiment and then they record. Most of the recording we do is guided. I feel that their learning sticks so much more using the notebooks than it did when I used worksheets. They become more independent as the year progresses. Look at Monday's post for information about the composition books I use. I found some that have blank pages that I love.

Do you use a table of contents with your kids? Our district is mandating we all use science journals next year. I've use them for a while with my kinders, but I've not had them create a table of contents (like the district wants) and I'm wondering how to manage that part especially in the fall with such little ones.
ReplyDeleteI do not use a table of contents in my notebooks, but I would just leave a couple of pages at the beginning to make one. Put a table of contents label at the top of the page and add to it every time you add to the notebooks. You would also need to number the pages which would take a lot of time.
DeleteI've awarded you the Versatile Blog award and the One Lovely Blog awards. Make sure you head over to my blog and pick them up.

No, I make them using the Word label tool or Avery DesignPro.
